Final Fantasy VII for the Playstation one console
Final Fantasy IX, by Squaresoft, is the first Final Fantasy game that I've ever played. One of my other articles states this fact. But Final Fantasy VII really pushed the game series to new heights for me. Final Fantasy IX wasn't a failure in any way, but Final Fantasy VII was just leaps and bounds ahead of it. It tells of a SOLDIER named Cloud who is a merc for hire, doing whatever job is needed. A group called Avalanche hires him to do a terrorist attack on an evil corporation named Shinra. Shinra is powering their evil country and works by draining the life of the planet, and they eventually will destroy it if somebody doesn't stop them. That doesn' really affect Cloud too much, he just wants to do the job and get his pay. Barrett, an Avalanche leader, tries to inform Cloud of the importance of the world condition, but to no avail. Regardless, Cloud is a great help in planting a bomb in one of the main reactors of Shinra, causing a major explosion and major damage. They take responsibility for the attack, not hiding that they did it. That would end up being the undoing of their acts for the most part. On a second run to plant another bomb the President of Shinra is waiting on them, and deploys a robot to attack Cloud and his friends. One of them being childhood friend Tifa Lockheart.
After the attack, in which Cloud and crew come out on top, Cloud falls in a hole left from the fight and falls into a church of a girl named Aerith. She is an ancient, a race of people that Shinra wants to use to reach the Promise Land to reach a world flowing with Mako, the lifeblood of the planet. Cloud won't have any of it, becoming her bodyguard and helping her make it home to her mom's house. Well as the story got along, she was finally kidnapped by the Turks, an organization that works for Shinra. The Turks then set of a bomb that would cursh and kill an unknown number of people, and all the Avalanche members, minus Cloud, Tifa, and Barrett. They would adventure outside of Midgar, with the saved Aerith, to pursue different objectives and eventually reach a town right outside of Midgar. There Cloud mentions Sephiroth, a SOLDIER who is the best in the world, and some of the adventures they used to have.
Sephiroth ends up being alive, after some time, and wanting to bring a giant Meteor and destroy the planet. He kills Aerith, leaving many people stunned. And with her death the last of the ancients is lost, excluding Sephiroth. So because of this and other evil actions taken by Sephiroth, Cloud and gang decide to follow him and stop his evil plans. They eventually find him and do defeat him, but they're too late because Sephiroth's plan for the Meteor is working. Right before her death, Aerith was praying for Holy magic to stop the Meteor, and Sephiroth thought he stopped that with killing her. But it did indeed work, and was able to defend the Meteor. But it wasn't enough, and the damage was major from it about to hit the planet. So Aerith, from the lifestream, used the blood of the planet to totally destroy the Meteor and save the world from certain destruction.
This game has since had several spin-off games, which some have been enjoyable. I'm interested in seeing if Final Fantasy VII will be remade, or have a true sequel. But in the meantime there are great games, and Square Enix games, to be played to eat up the time.
