For a bunch of little or big girls, dressing like Power Puff Girls is a great idea for a group costume. But finding a costume
for everyone could be a challenge.But finding a costume for everyone could be a challenge.The simple dresses the characters
wear are easily duplicated and their stylized make-up and hair makes them easy to recognize.
Ready-made new costumes are neither cheap or easy to find. Amazon has a few Power Puff Girls costumes ranging from $19.99 to
$29.99. And there are other sites offering costumes for up to $49.99. E-Bay has the best prices and selections, but you still
have to pay shipping. Most are limited to the toddler size and many are already out of stock. For such a high price, and such
a simple costume, the smart idea would be to make it yourself.
The costume consists of an easy straight dress in hot pink, lime green or blue depending on the character. If the costume is
for a child or even a small adult, an extra-large t-shirt will work. Cut off the sleeves and cinch in the waist with a wide
piece of black fabric. A child's t-shirt with a matching colored tube skirt or any solid colored knit dress is another
option. Purchase the t-shirts at hobby stores, for as low as $2.50 or search out the thrift store. Make sure to add the wide
black belt, made from a scrap of black fabric or crepe paper and wrapped around the waist. Hold it together with safety pins
in the back.
Power Puff shoes are simply black Mary Janes with white ankle socks. Black flats or ballet shoes, will work too. Tape on a
strap with black electrical tape if the shoes don't have one.
The girls have wild hairstyles that can be duplicated with gel and hair spray. Another suggestion is to find a wig and then
style it. Buttercup has a black flip, parted in the center with bangs pulled to each side. If you are starting with short
hair recreate Blossom's bright red ponytail with a yarn wig or hair extension. With longer hair, sculpting gel and colored
hair spray will work. Bubbles hairdo is bright blonde, with ponytails on each side. No matter the style, lots of teasing and
hair spray will help these hairdos style keep their wild style.
Another important part of this costume is the right make-up or a mask. Use professional make-up to draw a large colored ring
around each eye that you then outline in black. As an alternative, find the a large pair of black reading glasses glue a ring
cut from colored card stock around the edge of the glasses. Make sure to cut out the center so that you can see through them.
You could also make a mask by finding the appropriate Power Puff girl picture either in a coloring book or online, blowing it
up to the right size and printing it off in color.
Whether you decide to buy one of the costumes available online, or put one together yourself, being a Power Puff Girl for
Halloween will be fun for anyone who enjoys these popular cartoon characters. Add to the spirit of the costume by getting in
